There are many people around the world, specifically in the age group of 50 and above who are facing problems in trying to remember things. As time passes, they find that the situation is getting tougher and that they are slowly loosing control over their vocabulary powers, and at times are finding it tough to remember even their near and dear ones. This is a clear symptom of Alzheimer’s disease and one should take care at the onset itself and try to fight it as much as possible. Once Alzheimer’s advances into the secondary stage, it becomes extremely tough to fight it and there are all sorts of complications.

You should remember that you are not alone and nearly 1-2% of the worldwide senior populations are afflicted by Alzheimer’s disease. There are different types of dementias that affect people and Alzheimer’s alone accounts for 50% of them. There is an opinion that people who are affected by Alzheimer’s disease can no longer function properly, and due to this, they are often shunned by their family and friends, thus compounding their woes. It is at such time that their family and friends should be more sympathetic towards them.

There is again no doubt that the outcome and symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease are quite serious but this does not imply that people afflicted by this incurable disease can no longer function properly. All it requires is a bit of sympathy and help from friends and members of their family. If one of your near and dear relative or friend too is afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease, you can follow certain steps to help them out. Help them to perform simple tasks and if so required, help them with the specifics too.

If you tell them to bring the check book, it might sound like an imposing task for them, but if you tell them to open the cabinet, they shall face no problems. You can then proceed to tell them to take out the book on the 2nd shelf. If the tasks are broken down into simple steps, these people will be able to perform them. This also provides them with happiness that they are still able to do things they are asked. You should not forget that people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease are extremely sensitive and irritative; hence you should be both calm and reassuring when dealing with them.

There might be occasions when the person afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease might not be able to perform tasks requested by you at the first instance. You should not give up and make them perform that task again and again. Over a short period of time you will observe that they are improving and that they will no longer require your help to perform that specific task. Make them do that particular task once they have learned it. This helps them to remember it and actively participate in the day to day happenings of the family.

Even though more than a century has passes since the discovery of Alzheimer’s disease in Germany, there is no sure cure for the same. Alzheimer’s, which attacks and damages the cells of the brain and makes vegetable out of living human beings, is the fifth most death causing disease and more than five million Americans are affected by it. Alzheimer’s disease does not attack young people, and this disease is generally found in people who are 65 years and more in age.

It was way back in 1905 when the famous German physician, Alois Alzheimer first described about this disease in details and the name of this malady has been attributed to him. Alzheimer’s disease is a type of brain disorder which is progressive in nature and in its advanced stages, Alzheimer’s also causes death. Alzheimer’s disease targets and affects the brain cells of human beings and destroys them. This causes the patient to suffer from many problems like loss of memory and inability to pursue their work and hobbies. It also causes dilution of their thinking power which damages their social life.

Those who are affected with this disease tend to forget very quickly, and even forget their near and dear ones. Alzheimer’s disease is one of the most common forms of dementia, which is a standard term used to describe about loss of memory along with other intellectual capabilities. These disabilities are serious enough to impair the day to daylife of the patient. One should ensure that the patient is actually suffering from Alzheimer’s before proceeding forth for treatment.

There are other types of dementia too like vascular dementia which reduces the flow of blood to certain parts of the human brain. This disease needs a different type of treatment than Alzheimer’s. At times Alzheimer’s is often found in patients who are also suffering from vascular dementia and this disease is known as mixed dementia. Though patients suffering from Alzheimer’s disease do not have any options for getting cured, they can enjoy the rest of their lives properly if they are provided with the correct type of support and services. It goes without saying that the love and affection of the members of the family plays a large part too.

Though Alzheimer’s disease had been discovered more than a century ago, the maximum research on curing this fatal disease has taken place only in the past 15 years. Scientists and physicians from all over the world are working together to find ways to treat this deadly disease. They are also trying to find means by which the onset of Alzheimer’s disease can be delayed, and if it has already affected a person, how it can be prevented from developing. There are many symptoms that are visible when a person has been affected with Alzheimer’s disease, and the commonest thing to watch out for is the loss of short term memory. The patients forget things that they have done within a few minutes.

There are occasions when one is sure that their near and dear ones have been affected with Alzheimer’s disease. One wants to get them treated and at the same one does not want to reveal to them that they have been afflicted with Alzheimer’s. What can one do when they are faced with such a tricky situation? It is imperative that they are checked by the physician and specialists and at the same time they should now be aware of the disease they are affected with. If they find out that they have Alzheimer’s, they might move inside a conscious shell and it might complicate the problems caused by the disease.

There are several means which one can adopt to bypass this problem. Just tell the patient suffering from Alzheimer’s disease that they are being taken to the doctor for a general and annual health check up. Nobody will mind going in for an annual check up, since it is a routine stuff that is done by everyone. It is recommended that you explain the physician about this situation and it is better if the physician themselves ring up your near and dear ones and remind them that it is high time to get their annual health check up conducted.

In this way these patients will never understand that they are being taken to be checked up for Alzheimer’s disease. This disease is very dangerous and is affecting nearly 6 millions Americans as of date. There are no medications available that can cure it permanently, though there are researches going on to fid a permanent cure. Though Alzheimer’s disease was identified and isolated as late as in 1906 by a German physician, it is only in the last 15 years or so that concerted efforts by physicians and scientists all over the world have resulted in the production of some medications that can delay the progress of this disease and in certain cases even helps people affected by the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease to live a better life.

One should also remember that short term memory loss does not always mean that the affected person has got Alzheimer’s disease. There are many other reasons, like depression, that can also show the same symptoms and these maladies can be detected and cured. While a general physician might be able to detect and isolate Alzheimer’s disease, it is strongly recommended to go in for consultation with a specialist.

There are certain tests like magnetic resonance imaging tests of the brain which can accurately detect Alzheimer’s disease and if someone is affected with some other diseases that also affect the memory cells, going in for such a brain scan will identify those diseases. If you are finding it tough to find any specialists in your locality for detecting and treating Alzheimer’s disease, you can check out for the local Alzheimer’s society which will help you out. Though Alzheimer’s disease cannot be cured as of now, the pains can be reduced if the patient’s family and friends co-operate.

People sometimes take pride in taking care of their aged parents but there are instances when they get tired of their habits. One needs to look at the root cause of their habits and need to ensure why the aged are behaving in such a manner. Nobody wants to repeat the same request again and again but of late you have noticed that your father making the same requests to you repeatedly. Instead of giving you sufficient time to carry out the request, he is asking for you to perform that task each time you come face to face with him.

There are certain diseases that cause these types of behaviors in people, especially those who are 65 years or more in age and the most common of such diseases is Alzheimer’s disease. While Alzheimer’s is rarely found in young people there are 50% chances of people aged 85 and above being affected by it. This disease attacks the cells of the brain and causes various types of brain disorders including loss of memory. If your father is requesting you to perform the task again and again, chances are that he is suffering from Alzheimer’s and has forgot that he had made that request to you previously.

Many people think that loss of memory is a part of aging, but this is not correct. There are many senior citizens whose memories are far better and sharper than that of young people. Though Alzheimer’s is not specifically a hereditary disease, in rare instances it can carry over from one generation to another. Those affected by this disease will slowly find their capabilities to recognize ordinary things like people around them wearing away.

Apart from that those suffering from Alzheimer’s disease also find problems in conducting their day to day activities. At times this can become a soul wrenching problem for the other members of the family as they find their dear and beloved ones struggling to remember the simple things of life. Initially, Alzheimer’s does not attack one severely and in the early stages one might find the patient suffering from loss of memory. They also find it tough to handle day to day tasks and one might find a change in their personality and mood. Asking the same questions is another pointer that identifies that a person is suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.

Generally the old memories are not affected as much as the recent memories of the patient suffering from this disease. If not taken care of properly, Alzheimer’s disease moves over into an advanced stage and it is here that it begins to take frightening properties. The level of memory loss is increased and the patient might not even recognize his near and dear ones. At times it has been noticed that certain patients of Alzheimer’s disease become suspicious of others and also start getting afraid of them. As of date there is no cure for Alzheimer’s but recent advances in medical science can slow down the progression of Alzheimer’s.

There are a number of young people who are facing memory related problems. Within a few moments of conducting one task, they tend to forget it. Most of them have heard about Alzheimer’s disease and are worried if they too are affected by the same. These people should take solace from the fact that Alzheimer’s does not affect people below 60 years of age, and is generally observed in those who are 65 years and more. Even then, the disease is at its primary stages and it is only when people surpass the age of 85, does this disease, which is yet not curable, takes gargantuan proportions.

There are many other reasons due to which one can have both short term and long term memory loss and most of them are curable. It helps if people start helping themselves so that they are not affected by Alzheimer’s disease when they grow older. Most of us take recourse to inventions of modern science and do not want to exercise our brains and this, later on, assists in the growth of Alzheimer’s. There are some other myths too regarding this disease and the sooner they are dispelled, the better.

People often believe that they too will be afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease just because one of their parents has it. Such people should know that Alzheimer’s disease is not hereditary and there are just rare and isolated cases where a particular strain of this disease, that affects the brain cells in an irreversible and incurable manner, has affected the kids of those affected by it. The younger generation should try to exercise their brain more since this improves the power of the cells within the brain and thus prevents Alzheimer’s disease from affecting it. We have inculcated such bad habits of taking things the easy way and some of these bad habits really harm our future lives.

If there is just a small mathematical equation, we rather seek to solve it by using the calculator rather than exercise our brain cells. This is not just done. Exercising the brain is one of the major means by which we can assure that we are not affected by Alzheimer’s disease. If you have not yet started observing this simple thing, why not start today. Apart from that there are many other types of means we can use to exercise our brain. Why not try games that require remembering a sequence of colors and shapes.

This particular game helps us to increase our level of concentration thus help avoid falling prey to Alzheimer’s at a later stage. Though scientists from all over the world are trying to research more into the causes of Alzheimer’s disease and how to cure those who are effected by it, they are all of the same opinion that exercising one’s brain is one of the primary methods by which one can ensure that their brain is isolated and protected from Alzheimer’s disease at later stages of life.
